Microsoft Power BI is a self-service business intelligence (BI) solution delivered through Excel and Office 365 that provides information workers with data analysis and visualization capabilities. Power BI lets customers connect to data in the cloud or extend their existing on premise data sources and systems.

In this set of sessions, you'll learn about all the Power BI components, how to configure Power BI for Office 365, and how to integrate with both cloud and on premise systems. We'll also take a look at some of the upcoming Power BI features expected to release in late 2014.

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand the key Power BI components delivered in Excel and Office 365, and how they work together to support the self-service BI lifecycle.
  • Learn how to setup, configure, and administrate a Power BI for Office 365 environment
  • Gain insight into making Power BI for Office 365 integrate with both cloud and on premise data sources

Session 1: Understanding the Power BI Components – 11am EDT

Walking through an end-to-end example, you'll learn how Power BI starts in Excel (Power Query, PowerPivot, Power View, and Power Map) and extends to Office 365 to allow organization to share and collaborate BI solutions.

Session 2: Power BI for Office 365 Administration – 1pm EDT

We'll install and configure Office 365 on the desktop, then setup and configure a new Power BI for Office 365 tenant. This session will also cover the Power BI for Office 365 licensing and site provisioning requirements.

Session 3: Data Integration – 3pm EDT

Power BI for Office 365 can tap into both cloud and on premise data sources. We'll walk through the setup and configuration of the Data Management Gateway (used for on premise connectivity), review the role of the data steward, and discuss future integration capabilities.
