Adam has posted some interesting details about the new SQL Server 2005 metadata views in an article called – “Say goodbye to system tables in SQL Server 2005”. (You can find the article at http://www.searchsqlserver.com/tip/1,289483,sid87_gci1089808,00.html?track=NL-464&ad=514312USCA).
I suggest you take a look at this article, especially if you have to do much work as a database administrator. As a long time DBA, I frequently queried the SQL Server system tables. The old system tables are deprecated in SQL Server 2005 and much more powerful database management views (in the same vein as those in Oracle) are now available.
Adam’s article has a few sample scripts that will help you get used to the new views.
