SQL Server 2012 Official Name of Upcoming SQL Server Release

SQL Server 2012 is the formal name of the upcoming SQL Server release (previously referred to as SQL Server code-named Denali). The final name of the product was announced by Ted Kummert at PASS Summit 2011 today. In addition, Microsoft announced that SQL Server 2012 will be released in the first half of 2012.

Doug Leland, General Manager of Product Management, Business Platform Marketing Group at Microsoft, explained to SQL Server Magazine that SQL Server 2012 is the foundation of Microsoft’s vision and strategy around addressing the changing world of data. Microsoft Corporate Vice President Ted Kummert expanded on this by saying “The next frontier is all about uniting the power of the cloud with the power of data to gain insights that simply weren’t possible even just a few years ago. Microsoft is committed to making this possible for every organization, and it begins with SQL Server 2012.”
